Ensemble Anchiskhati – Tradition and new sounds
Georgian polyphony, listed in UNESCO’s intangible cultural heritage, has always influenced Russudan’s music. In 2018 Russudan wrote new music for the Ensemble Anchiskhati, one of the most famous and outstanding men’s choirs in Georgia. They were curious about contemporary scores in Georgian ecclesiastical modes. In the live performance the composition was not limited to its score but was expanded by the improvisations of Hans-Joachim Irmler, an icon of German "Krautrock". The power of rough, archaic men’s voices was surrounded and interrupted by the vehemence generated by Irmler on his analog electric instruments.
Performers: Ensemble Anchiskhati, Hans-Joachim Irmler, Russudan Meipariani
